1/2 Truth paper

For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them (1:19). Truth is found throughout creation. General revelation is how God has “shown” truth to us. But like Israel we have “exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles”(1:22). As humans we have exchanged God objective truth for man-made truths and cultural norms. We have set worldly views on a pedestal placing the basic laws of God on the back burner.
For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened (1:21).It our lack of reverence of God that causes this dark heart, a heart too dark to perceive truth. It is sin that clouds our vision and lets “futile” thinking come into place. Many think logic and science hold all answers to the divine but Paul says “what can be known about God is plain”. In our finite minds we can never fully grasp God but what can be known is plain. God makes himself plain so we can have a relationship with him; now if only the opposite sex could do the same thing.
